Flag Design

Client: Wellington City Council

The client asked for a flag design that celebrates the Wellington waterfront.

My design celebrates the constant physical activity that brings people together into community that occurs naturally every day on the waterfront. I used a textile dying process that uses sublimate ink to create the flag because it allows for beautiful textures and detail.

To celebrate the activity that occurs, I drew inspiration from my personal contribution done by rowing. This is shown through the repeated arrow graphics that are an abstracted form of the rowing boat and is also a symbol of people coming together in the form of crews. I most enjoy exercising at sunrise, which I have used to create my colour palette of bright oranges, pinks, purples and black silhouettes.
